Star Citizen Hits 40 Million in Funding

If you are a Wing Commander fan from back in the day this is for you and your inner child.

Read the update here.

I signed up way back in the day when the game was being kickstarted. This game will swallow many weeks of my life when it gets to Alpha/Beta and then release.

10 Years of Deadwood

If you haven’t seen it then watch this video… Once you finish watching grab a copy from some place and watch it all the way through.

If you have seen it then watch this video and then grab your copy and re-watch!

Caution, profanity does ensue in this video clip as well as the show. They don’t have a character named Al Swearengen for nothing.

Enjoy

Infinidat Website Launched

You can now find the new Infinidat company website here.

I am most interested in the newly announced Infinbox storage system. I liken it to a high density Swiss Army knife of storage. Below are some of the major components of the InfiniBox.

  • InfiniRAID
  • InfiniSnap
  • Up to 2 PB in a single 19 inch rack with only a 8 KW power draw at peak load
  • Host Power Tools for managing SAN connectivity from endpoint to storage
  • Multiple storage communication mediums such as Fibre Channel and Ethernet
  • RESTFul API for easy integration of custom or 3rd party management and/or monitoring

I am sure with the web sites release further information will be published going into detail of where the Infinibox fits into your enterprise picture. If your in the hunt for a Swiss Army knife type storage platform I would highly recommend giving them a look.

VCP Recertification

It was only a matter of time, but it seems now that VMware is taking a page from other vendors to align it’s certification’s with its releases more closely. The announcement which can be found here details out how VMware will be working to make sure certifications for VMware professionals stay current an applicable. When I heard the news I was a bit miffed as it meant I had to make sure to re certify to avoid loosing my certification previously held, but in thinking about it further I think it benefits all VCPs by keeping the value of the certification up and removing a lot of the paper certifications that tend to be created over time.

VMware Horizons DaaS Launched

VMware’s much awaited launch of its Horizons DaaS product came to be today. This service is a product of the Desktone procurement last year and its integration into the Horizon suite. The official announcement can found here from VMware. Ever since I started hearing of the direction for Horizon suite I had concerns on how this may play out with Microsoft’s ever so draconian licensing policy of dedicating hardware and SAN to a singular customer’s workload only. It will be interesting to find out how VMware is working with Microsoft to deliver a cost-effective solution based upon Microsoft’s past licensing position. We shall see.

Rig Rebuild

Well it was inevitable at this point. The OS on my Gaming Rig gave up the ghost. I think after loading 400 games on the OS, re-imaging it to a new HD and then running about a dozen and a half game alphas/betas on it the OS succumbed to its injuries. Spent the weekend backing up data and rebuilding from scratch. After rebuild she is running better than ever and OS/App response times are much more healthier. It got me starting to think what my next Rig should look like. This current Rig has served me well for almost four years, but like everything computer related thing there is a season, a time to be born, a time to die and this system crawls ever nearer towards death.

Stay tuned for Rig updates as I start to look further into a replacement.

Tropico 5

Tropico 5 was announced a bit ago, but a new trailer is out for today. My gaming crew turned me on to this series at Tropico 3 and I have enjoyed it ever since. The fact that this new release will be CO-OP makes it a possible great add to the weekend tool kit of fun.

VMware VSAN has Arrived

VMware is finally releasing its VSAN product next week. With today’s presentation the specs for VSAN have been released. A few bullet points below.

I am highly interested in load testing this with VDI as this could be a cost-effective performance boost for VDI clusters I work with. If I get an opportunity to place it in the field I will do my best to post my experience here. All of the staff I have spoken with at VMware that have worked with the product have given it five stars in the VDI realm.

Infinidat – Not Today

Looks like they had to push the new site launch out a couple more days. Stay tuned sports fans, I believe it will be worth the wait.

Infinidat

For those of you who have seen some of the discovery articles on The Register and are interested to find out more about the Infinidat product offerings then you are in luck. The Infinidat web site seems to have a countdown to something for 4 PM Central time this Thursday. Be there or be squared.

Homeworld Remake

For all of us suckers who wish to go back to old school on space tactical combat and have lived under a rock then I have a treat for you. Homeworld is a great game to solo on a weekend when you just want to do something. I highly recommend that if you haven’t played this series that you grab it when it comes out.

Gearbox goodness in the link.

Back…

After almost two years of not coming up for air I am finally back to a week that didn’t involve lighting my hair on fire and deciding that a world without sleep was a more efficient place.

So this is my second attempt at keeping a blog of random information and pieces of flair. Who knows how long I will keep this up. Maybe, just maybe I will post more than four posts before something implodes.

So, in a truly backlog fashion you will see a flurry of posts over the next couple weeks.

The last two years best summed up in one video clip.

SimCity is at it Again

You knew it had to Happen

For all of you that have watched the birth and death of many Windows Operating Systems you just knew this had to happen eventually.Maybe not as famous as of the BSOD on stage of ole, but just as fun. Take a Spin over to the Register to read their scoop on a Metro UI demo.

The Register

While I haven’t played around with the new Windows 8 that much, I have to say the hype machine of this OS has been in overdrive as of late. More on the OS to come.

Peyton has Landed

Peyton Manning to the Broncos…

As a Giants fan I’m glad to see Manning stay out of the NFC. Now we don’t have to have Manning Bowl every playoff season. Now as a Chiefs fan while it just may have gotten more difficult for games against the Broncos at least we get to see Peyton at home games every year. It’s always exciting to watch him play. Maybe the Chiefs crowd might also enjoy the Denver games more now instead of some few drunken folks falling back on “Die Donkey, Die”.

Welcome to What A Cluster

Welcome to What A Cluster. I am dedicating this site to my mindless ramblings about IT, Games, Movies, Football and pretty much anything else in between. I hope you will find the content educational and entertaining and if you find neither then well why are you still reading this?
